Pastoral Transition
CPC entered a time of pastoral transition after the departure of our senior pastor last fall. Since then, we have taken the “pulse” of the congregation with listening sessions, and in January, we elected a Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC). This space will serve as a Pastoral Transition headquarters of sorts. Get to know our PNC, and get updates.
Meet your Pastoral Nominating Committee
Dan Meyer
Dan Meyer has been a member at CPC for a little over 2 years. He and his wife, Deb, have led two small groups at CPC, and they are excited about leading another this spring. He has served on two CPC task forces – one to advise the session on the timing of worship services and one proposing CPC’s stance on public communication and action in a challenging political climate. He and Deb attend the contemporary service. He is semi-retired from being a professor in the School of Social Work at the UW-Madison and is currently working part time researching family policy at the Institute for Research on Poverty. When he’s not working, he loves spending time with his 9 grandchildren, and he enjoys ultimate frisbee, women’s volleyball, piano, and artisan cheese.
Sarah Glomski
Sarah has been at CPC for about 7 years, and typically attends the early service. Sarah also volunteers weekly as an adult leader with the youth group. Outside of CPC, Sarah works in mental health at the Dane County Jail. In her free time, Sarah enjoys DIY projects, being outdoors, and spending time with her family: husband Ted, Braxton (age 9), and dog Patches.
Matt Becker
Matt attends the 9am service with his wife Erica and their sons Marvin and Cal. He coordinates the volunteer effort for the Community Fridge and has been part of the Sunday Morning Kids Ministry and Awaken Dane. The family enjoys being outside together and navigates a divided house with both Packers and Bears loyalties. Outside of CPC, Matt works in Human Resources.
David Clay
David Clay lives in East Madison with wife Lindsay and 2 kids Amelia (7) and Lillian (4). They also have a goldendoodle named Luna. David has worked in IT for about 14 years and currently works for an agriculture company that grows seedcorn and cucumbers (for pickling). David grew up in the Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee and moved to Madison in 2008 and met Lindsay who is a lifelong member of CPC. He has consistently volunteered in the sound booth, having a degree in communication with an emphasis in Broadcasting. David set up our current streaming platform. He has also served as a deacon for CPC and on the Worship Design Committee. For fun, David enjoys scuba diving and traveling, most recently to Iceland and Thailand.
Martha Nelson
Martha Nelson is a life-long Presbyterian and a member of CPC for 18 years in two installments. First in the 80s and again since 2016 when retirement brought her husband Dave and her back to Madison. Marty has been blessed to serve the church in many roles, from Elder in four different churches, to Clerk of Detroit Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry, and as Volunteer Coordinator for the 2014 Presbyterian General Assembly. Through these experiences, she has met countless remarkable people and seen that there is usually more than one way to get things done at church, as long as we remain open to possibilities. Marty is humbled to be asked to serve on CPC’s Pastor Nominating Committee.
Barbara Johnson
Barbara is a Michigan native, though spent most of her adult years in New York City, moving to Madison knowing she would retire here. Early in her career, she was a reporter and editor for newspapers and magazines in Detroit, Dallas, and New York, eventually moving to senior roles on the business side of publishing. Barbara retired 10 years ago and since then has been an active volunteer at Wisconsin Watch, in fair maps efforts, and with various political campaigns. At CPC, Barbara is on Session, serve lunches at Luke House, and is the supporting elder to Robin Hill on the Congregational Life and Care Commission. She joined CPC in 2024 and she usually attends the 11am service. Barbara has one son who lives in Denver with his wife and two young children, whom she adores and sees as often as possible.
Sara Lubbers
Sara has been a member at CPC for 32 years and attends the Contemporary Service. She has served on the Welcome Team for this service for approximately 8 years. During this length of time as a member, Sara has served one term as an Elder and 3 terms as a Deacon. Her last term as a Deacon she was both a Co-Moderator and the Moderator. In addition to these roles Sara has volunteered at Luke House, a variety of mission projects and in 2006 traveled to Rwanda with a CPC team through World Vision to visit children through their sponsorship program that CPC had an active partnership with for over 10 years. This was a definite lifetime highlight for her! Sara’s current involvement is with the Refuge Leadership Social Justice Team. For the past 9 years Sara has been retired from her career as a school counselor for 25 years in the Oregon (WI) School District. Some of Sara’s interests include gardening, cooking, spending time with friends and family which includes her 6 year old granddaughter and traveling.
