Summer Series begins June 7!

Unshakeable: Living by Faith in a Broken World

The historical importance of Paul’s letter to the Romans cannot be overestimated. More has been written about Paul’s letter to the Romans than any other book in the New Testament. Luther gained inspiration from Romans 1:17 impacting his life, his work, and, ultimately, Western history. Wesley’s reading of Luther’s preface to Romans strangely warmed his heart and inspired the Methodist movement. For these men, Romans was fundamental for their understanding of justification by faith alone. It is hard to imagine Christianity today without the creative impulse Romans has given, or the energy of the Scotch-Irish Presbyterians without the influence of Romans. More recently, Romans has had an enormous positive impact on Jewish-Christian dialogue and on our understanding of the role of women in the earth church.

Environmentalists have also found legitimization in Paul’s treatment of the natural world. Increasingly, scholars have come to see that Romans is not just about individual salvation but salvation of the whole human and nonhuman world. In this sermon series we’ll explore these and other issues in Romans and connecting lectionary passages that are surely relevant today and worth our efforts to pursue, as so many people have found throughout the history of the church. Join us this summer in exploring Romans through the theme Unshakeable: Living By Faith in a Broken World.”
