Giving Above and Beyond
Capital campaigns for congregations like Energizing Mission always mean members and friends are giving above and beyond our regular giving to the church budget. So, how do we do that when budgets are already tight? First, we pray for God’s guidance.
Some of us find out that there is “wiggle room” in our weekly budget. One member who usually goes out to eat a couple of times a week is cutting back to once a week which will enable a commitment of $100 a month for three years to Energizing Mission. Some are asking if they really need that subscription to Sirius or the daily latte. Getting books from the public library instead of buying is good stewardship in many ways.
Others are giving from assets. Transfer of stocks allows you not only to give but avoid capital gains that gained in value over the last several years. Those of us over 70 ½ can take advantage of QCD or Qualified Charitable Distributions to give directly from retirement accounts. Others give directly from accumulated assets. If you have questions about these please consult with your personal financial advisor.
And for some it is a combination of giving from regular income and assets. Prayerfully consider what you can contribute and we all come together to Energize Mission within the church building, out in the community, and into the world.
