PNC Nominations 1
Oct 13 - Pastor Nominating Committee

A Checklist for our Future

John Knox Presbytery has a document called “Checklist for Next Steps in the Call Process” that guides the work of a Pastor Nominating Committee from the steps leading up to the search process to the installation service for a new pastor.

Just for fun, guess how many steps are in that process:

  1. 28
  2. 42
  3. 58
  4. 64

If you guessed C — 58, you have probably served on a PNC before!

Some of the steps are quickly accomplished, such as #27: “Obtain the Ministry Discernment Profile (MDP).” This just involves downloading an 8‑page form from a website.

Others are more involved, such #28: “Completion/approval of MDP.” This calls for a description of the position and the mission of the congregation, among other things. This takes some time to complete and requires Session approval.

So the next time you find yourself wondering why it is taking so long, take heart in the knowledge that your PNC is currently on steps in the lower 40’s. This means we’re close to identifying an individual to serve as our next head pastor.

We will let you know as soon as we have more to share.
