Good Friday Tenebrae Worship
Good Friday (Tenebrae), 7:00pm – The Cross
Readings from the gospels of Matthew and John, which tell the grim story of Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion, form the core of this service, which begins in light and concludes in complete darkness. The Chancel Choir and Robert Haigler present Dale Wood’s “A Service of Darkness” – a series of seven choral anthems in which the choir serves as a “Greek Chorus” – commenting on each reading from the account of Jesus’ suffering and death. Based not on scripture texts but on sacred poetry chosen by the composer, the anthems greatly amplify the readings which precede them to create a powerful whole.
